GENTLE PARENT SPIRIT

Where is my mother?

Where is the hand to wipe my tears?

To calm my fears?

Where is my father?

Where is the voice to help me stay strong

As I go along?

If I could

Think of the faces

That smiled on me to lift me up.

Cheer me on.

Then I could keep on trying till the dawn.

But I'll need

All the kindness I can find for myself

Forgive myself...

It's time to

Say all the things that I wish

Someone had said

In a gentle parent spirit.

I am my own mother

I sing myself to sleep at night

So everything's all right.

I am my own father.

I keep a strong roof over my head.

So I'm safe in bed.

I am a child

Growing changing learning how to be

Perfectly me.

And looking to the best that I can be.

And you'll need

All the kindness you can find for yourself

Forgive yourself, yourself

It's time to

Say all the things that you wish

Someone had said

In a gentle parent spirit

Into your mind

Comes every critical line you've ever heard

every biting word

Recorded and remembered flawlessly.

So it's time to

Tell yourself all the things that you wish

Someone had said

Your own gentle parent spirit.
